Known as Music City and the home of the iconic Grand Ole Opry and Country Music stars, Nashville has various areas that attract tourists, including highly-rated restaurants that offer unusual menus that delight tourists and the city’s residents alike.
Red-Headed Stranger
Named after a song that Willie Nelson sang while he was a disc jockey, the Red-Headed Stranger is known as a “breakfast taco joint.” There are nine varieties of traditional morning meals wrapped in tortillas. Customers can also enjoy Southwestern spices and meat encased in tacos.
Riddim and Spice
Riddim and Spice are owned by brothers who worked as youngsters alongside their mother in the kitchen of a favorite Caribbean restaurant named Jamaicaway. They later became owners of a food truck. Then, they opened their restaurant near Meharry Medical College. Here the brothers serve their creative versions of lamb and other meats and spicy island food. This menu includes curried shrimp, honey jerk chicken, and tangy peppers or queso fresco. Also on the menu are traditional Cuban black beans.
Black Dynasty Ramen
Black Dynasty Ramen is an Asian-inspired restaurant tucked away in an industrial area south of Broadway. The menus vary, but they always have a vegan shoyu option. There are also creative noodle bowls and an occasional dessert such as miso caramel banana pudding.
Pelican and Pig
Winning the 2019 Eater Awards Winner, Pelican and Pig is known for their wood-fired dishes. Shared plates can be enjoyed at the bar, the chef’s counter, or in the dining room. There are also larger dishes such as the Creole barbeque shrimp, pork chops with “sweet potato chile ‘mole.”
Café Roze
On the east side of the city, Café Roze has a lovely atmosphere to accompany the tasty dishes such as the chili eggplant and country ham.
Peninsula
Peninsula was Nashville’s 2018 Restaurant of the Year and had excellent appeal. Here, hospitality and creativity come together to provide real enjoyment of the meals. Visitors can enjoy culinary delights such as mushroom or tomato toast and rabbit braised in garlic broth.
