With the pandemic still enforcing stay-at-home orders for many, and various borders still being closed for travel, people have started to rely on other things to take them on vacation. Some have started to decorate their interior spaces to reflect their dream destinations. Some have invested themselves into different movies and tv shows highlighting travel. Some are even using books to take their mind on a trip. Books are amazing because they make us tap into our imagination and create the imagery ourselves. Let’s take a look at different books that help ease our desire for travel during a time when it is safer to stay put.

Next Year in Havana – Chanel Cleeton

This book will take you on a journey through the bright, colorful, dynamic streets of Havana, Cuba. The book goes back and forth between 1958 and 2017, providing a deeper insight into Cuba’s rocky history and rich culture. Beginning in Miami, the main character Marisol wants to spread her grandmother’s ashes in her hometown in Cuba. After arriving in Havana, she begins to see her grandmother’s childhood stories come to life in front of her, and she learns more about the beautiful country than she could have ever imagined.

Crazy Rich Asians – Kevin Kwan

Set in Singapore, this book will make you forget you are wherever you currently are. There are incredible descriptions of food, scenery, and lavish lifestyles. The book follows the experience of a girl named Rachel who goes to finally meet her family’s boyfriend. She has no idea what she’s in for, and neither do the readers. We get to read about the lavish habits of Singapore’s most elite, and we get to join Rachel in her quest for acceptance.

The Paris Hours – Alex George

This book is unique for many reasons, with one of the main ones being the fact that it takes place over the course of only 24 hours. With each page, you get a closer look into the unique features of each of Paris’ arrondissements. It tells four stories of four people living in the City of Love, taking place on one lone day in 1927. Viewers get to see what Parisian life is like for a maid, an artist, a journalist, and a refugee.
